Rules For Choosing A Wedding Venue

The Unsaid Rules Of Choosing Wedding Venues

A wedding venue is no ordinary thing. I mean forget the dress or the spouse, the wedding venue is what people will remember! Just kidding, but wedding venues, their décor, and functionality is vital to any wedding’s ‘success’. If you’re struggling to pull the trigger on a venue don’t worry! Here are some great tips to choosing a wedding venue.

If you’re looking at it from the spectrum of conventional requirements, these concerns are important but if you want a gothic-themed wedding with purple lipstick go for it, girl!

The Basic Conveniences

It’s all well and good to have a snazzy and sophisticated outlook on décor but a venue that offers no convenience for human needs such as the need to go to the bathroom is not going to be memorable. Or well, it may be memorable for the wrong reasons (insert humiliating scenarios).

Think about the facilities offered at the venue and whether or not it will work well for children, old people or disabled relatives. Aesthetic factors such as a dance floor, beautiful drapes or surrounding scenery are all important especially as they tie into your overall theme.

A bride room where the bride or a sick relative can rest is also essential (especially if you suffer from anxiety and will have one nice big panic attack at the last moment) and storerooms for wedding gifts are all things you should look into.

Money Money Money

When first-timers to getting married they often overlook a slew of miscellaneous costs that add up to an absolute fortune. Rentals such as tables, chairs, and sometimes even fixtures are usually separate from the site cost. There are also typically other taxes such as state tax or taxes on alcohol to consider.

Ceremony prep and the actual reception are viewed as separate entities, can you imagine? This means you may be charged twice. No wonder people are getting married in their great-aunt’s barn now!

Furthermore for more elaborate setups like a chocolate fountain, a canopy, or twinkle lights, you will need to pay the help for tearing everything down. Some costs are as great as $1000 an hour for tear-down!

Generators for the music system and any kind of special or extra lighting will also cost you those dear extra pennies you’ve been hiding above the fridge.

For the sake of your guests definitely check out valet and parking fees because ideally you should be the one paying for these services instead of asking your guests to do so.
Partying All Night…Or Not

If you are one of those crazed and amazing party animals and want your wedding to be an extension of that, you may have another thing coming. Extending the booked hours of a wedding venue is very pricey and may not even be allowed in some places due to their self-enforced curfew rules.

Management Says All

All wedding venues are not managed efficiently as you may assume and some may have little internal management and you will need a wedding planner and separate caterer etc to attend to the details. Have a look at the venue’s approved vendors (if any), their past practices, and the range of services they help out with such as arranging a band or DJ.
