Bridesmaid Transparency Letters - Do You Need One?

It has never been easy being a bride, what with all the pressure to look and be perfect as you are center stage not just at the wedding but for a long while before and after as well. And then there’s the colossal price tag that goes with it. But what many people fail to realize is that being a bridesmaid is pretty expensive too! In many cases, it means a considerable chunk of one’s income for many months or a whole year! One brides solution – a bridesmaid transparency letter.

In an act of epic preemption, a bride on Tiktok issued all her bridesmaids a ‘transparency letter’ outlining their role in her wedding and the considerable expenses that are involved. She thought what with all the financial troubles people have had because of Covid, it was the responsible and sensible thing to do. Since then the act has gone viral and has been a subject of much conversation around weddings.

What Is A Bridesmaid Transparency Letter

A transparency letter in any context is one that outlines the full spectrum of details and costs of any venture or cooperative action. In the case of weddings and bridesmaids’ transparency letters, it means outlining all the events, the pre-events, the approximate number of hours and days required from a bridesmaid, even an approximate amount of money that will be needed (such as the cost of the dress or tickets to Vegas- whatever you like!)

Is A Transparency Letter Absolutely Necessary

It’s an incredibly considerate move even though it may sound like you are being pushy. The transparency letter cuts through the formalities and obligations and allows your bridesmaids (who are a pivotal part of the celebration) to decide for themselves whether or not they can afford to be really ‘hands on’ in your wedding.

Not to mention it doesn’t have to be a stark declaration, you can put your best friends at ease and tell them that if due to personal reasons they can’t commit the time or money, it will have no effect on the friendship between you two. You can also make a small goody bag with items like hand cream or bookmarks or flowers to lighten the mood. Using the right language or your own personal casual style in the letter or card is also going to send the right message (pun intended) so that the letter is received in the right spirit.

Why Your Best Friends Will Love You For It

Love is not just about giving gifts, and spending on your loved ones, it is also about being aware of someone’s personal life, financial concerns as well as emotional and mental wellbeing. While you may be the bride you can’t discount what your loved ones have going on in their personal lives. What if someone has just lost their job but they are too polite to say they can’t cover bridesmaid expenses? Giving them an easy way out or allowing them to plan ahead will go a long way in strengthening your friendship!
